Kink Theory Care Guide

Kink Theory is the most fragile of the Faari textures because the sharper, zigzag pattern of 4B hair has fewer points of contact along the strand, which means it’s more prone to dryness and breakage if it isn’t handled with care.

Washing

Wash every 1 to 2 weeks, always in sections, using a moisturizing sulfate-free shampoo followed by a deep conditioner left on for 15 to 20 minutes, ideally with gentle heat from a bonnet or warm towel to help it penetrate. Detangle only with conditioner in the hair, starting at the ends and working upward. Never detangle 4B texture dry.

Styling and maintenance

This texture holds moisture longer when it’s kept in protective styles like twists, braids, or bantu knots between wears. When wearing it out, apply products on soaking wet hair using the LOC method, and seal ends with a butter-based cream or heavier oil, since ends are the oldest and most vulnerable part of the strand. Because 4B hair shrinks significantly, stretch it gently with banding or a loose twist-out if you want more length showing. Sleep on satin or silk, and consider a satin-lined bonnet or pillowcase for extra friction protection.

What to avoid

Avoid over-manipulation (excessive combing, restyling, or touching), products with high alcohol content, which dry out the strand, and letting the hair go too long between moisture refreshes.
